AI for Radio - Introduction, Ethics, Policy, Audit, Tools and Application.
Course Aims
How can radio stations integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) competently and confidently? This new Learning Waves CPD accredited course has been designed to provide radio professionals with the foundational knowledge of AI along with practical skills leading to improved productivity, enhanced creativity, and better team and client collaboration. Delivered by industry experts, graduates of the course will have developed an AI use-case study relevant to their work.

Module 1 - Introduction to AI
In this module you will learn about:
- What is AI and why has its evolution in recent years been so transformative?
- What are Ireland’s plans for AI and how does that affect the media industry?
- The significant impact this technology is and will have on all sectors of society, especially media.
- How the technology works, how it differs from human intelligence, and the basic concepts of AI.
Module 2 - Policy, Ethics and Data Management
In this module you will learn about:
- Why the ethical use of AI should be the cornerstone for its introduction into radio
- How ethics, data management and developing an AI policy provides a solid foundation for introducing the technology more seamlessly
- Why having an ethical approach builds trust internally in stations, but also maintains the trust of your listeners, clients and stakeholders. Students will be provided with
- How-to guides in this module which you can apply to their station.
Module 3 - AI Audit
In this module you will learn about:
- Why AI should only be introduced into areas of radio where it adds value and makes an impact
- How to undertake an audit of your organisation
- Understanding areas where AI will benefit from a productivity, creativity and collaborative perspective
- Working in teams to discuss how AI for radio can positively impact your work
- Using the Task–Problem–Solution (TPS) framework to understand how AI can enhance your profession. This approach will encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and ethical considerations
Module 4 - AI Prompt Engineering
In this module you will learn about:
- The new skill of AI prompt engineering
- How AI output is only as good as the prompt youi input.
- The fundamentals of Generative AI (Gen AI) and how Large Language Models (LLMs) operate from prompts.
- Practicing prompt engineering and better understand how it can be applied across multiple AI tools.
- Working in teams to optimise prompts using radio-specific scenarios to create and solve problems.
Module 5 and 6 - Building your AI Use case Studies - Practical Tools and Applications
This module will be delivered over 2 sessions. In this module you will learn about:
The range of AI platforms and apps including ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Adobe, Perplexity, Co-Pilot and more. The suite of tools taught will cover these elements of radio:
- Copywriting and creativity
- Mobile journalism (MoJo) and video production
- Audio production
- Content repurposing
- Administration
- Data management, analysis and reporting
Module 7 - Assignment and Practical Application
In this module you will be required to:
- Prepare an AI use-case for your role
- Identify where AI can add value to your work.
