€196,694 Awarded to Learning Waves Members under latest Sound & Vision Funding Round.

  • 24th March, 2025

Coimisiún na Meán has announced funding of €7 million under the latest round of the Sound & Vision Scheme, supporting 25 television productions and 59 radio productions. Six Learning Waves members have been awarded a total of €196,694 to help bring engaging, high-quality content to audiences, reflecting a wide spectrum of voices, cultures, and perspectives.

Independent radio remains at the heart of local communities, and this funding provides a significant boost to independent stations across the country. A variety of projects have secured support, covering themes such as news, current affairs, Irish language programming, cultural storytelling, music, and social issues. This round also highlights the growing role of podcasting and digital audio content in engaging listeners in new and innovative ways.

Below is a list of members who have received funding:

  • Midlands 103 have received €14,191 for arts and culture documentary Ashling's Legacy: Ceol & Cultúr

  • Clare FM have received €28,698 for contemporary society series Clare Women in Business, €17,904 for arts and culture series Traditional Greats

  • KCLR 96FM have received €12,500 for children's drama Cult of the Lost Swans, €22,092 for contemporary society series Feasts & Festivals, and €43,482 for historical documentary The Great Hunger in Kilkenny - From Cabin to Castle.

  • Ocean FM have received €8,330 for contemporary society series Lifting the Veil - Sligo’s Knights

  • Tipp FM have received €30,744 for contemporary society documentary The Village Tour

  • Radio Kerry have received €18,753 for media literacy project

Learning Waves, as the training and support network for independent radio broadcasters, welcomes this funding as a key investment in quality journalism and storytelling. The inclusion of new voices, diverse perspectives, and locally-driven stories will further strengthen Ireland’s independent broadcasting sector.
