Highland Radio, Ireland’s number one local radio station, today announced that Highland Radio’s
Commercial Director and Board
Member, Fionnuala Rabbitt, will take over the role as Managing Director responsible for the day to day running of the station, effective from January 5th, 2015 subject to BAI approval.

Fionnuala Rabbitt, 43, brings 12 years experience of working in local radio to the position of Managing Director. She has served as a director of Highland Radio since 2008 and holds a degree in Public & Social Policy as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Management.

The announcement follows Shaun Doherty’s decision to step down as Managing Director to focus primarily on developing Ireland’s most listened to local radio chat show, The Shaun Doherty Show, while pursuing other interests. The station welcomes Shaun’s new position as Programme Consultant for Highland Radio, he will also continue to be a valued member of the station’s board of directors.

As Managing Director of Highland Radio since June 2013, Shaun successfully navigated the station through renewal of its commercial license from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland in June of last year.

According to Shaun Doherty, “my commitment to Highland Radio is as strong as ever. I welcome this opportunity to focus my energy and passion on The Shaun Doherty Show and our programming. For the past six years, Fionnuala and myself have enjoyed a strong working relationship and I wish her every success in her new role.”

“While we are sorry that Shaun has decided to step down as Managing Director, we are delighted that Highland Radio will continue to gain from his expertise and immense talent” says Fionnuala Rabbitt. “I am really looking forward to building on Shaun’s great work over the past 18 months and working alongside him and the team to make this station even bigger and better in 2015 and beyond.”
