Course Brief

Part One: Introduction

In this short introduction you will explore the broad framework of Artificial Intelligence and the fields of research it encompasses. You will discuss the latest trends and how quickly they are evolving and you will establish a glossary and reference sheet for the terminology associated with AI.

Part Two: Applications

One of the greatest challenges of keeping up to date with AI applications is the speed of development of new solutions and versions. In this section you will explore AI applications of interest in text generation, audio generation and enhancement, image generation with prompts and video generation. After exploring the application list you will select a group to use for a practical project taking a concept from idea to prompt to image to video and then generating either an AI narrative track or sound track for the piece of content. This practical exercise will be done in groups of 2 or 3 (depending on attendee numbers).

Part Three: Ethics and Risks

Having created content using an AI pipeline you will explore the ethics of using AI in media production. You will look at some case studies from other media organisations approaches to using AI and you will discuss the risks of nefarious use of AI to generate deepfakes and disinformation which may be a threat in this years local elections. By the end of the course you will have a comprehensive understanding of the trends in AI development and a sense of where the technologies that underpin it will likely go in the coming year. You will have a list of 40+ AI apps to explore further in your own time and hands-on experience of the process of creating multi-media content and workflows using AI.
