Independent Radio Sector sees an Increase in Entries Shortlisted for 2016 PPI Radio Awards
  • 12th September, 2016

Exciting news in the Independent Radio sector today as the 2016 PPI Shortlist was announced at 12 this afternoon. Independent radio stations across the country made up a great number of 121 places on the shortlist spreading over 34 categories, while rather impressively dominating 6 of those categories including :

  • general music programme,
  • news bulletin,
  • community/social action,
  • music presenter of the year,
  • radio DJ of the year and
  • on air competition/promotion.

Newstalk and Today FM lead the way on the national front with Newstalk securing 22 shortlisted entries followed by Today FM with 20 entries on the shortlist.   On the local scene 98FM dominate with 13 shortlists followed closely by SPIN1038 with 8, Radio Kerry with 7 and FM104 with 6. Overall these results show an increase for the independent sector from 2015 having 114 entries shortlisted compared to the 121 entries this year. This increase reaffirms the commitment of staff across the independent sector to producing high quality, award winning radio programmes.  The winners will be announced at the awards night on 7th October 2016 in the Lyrath Hotel, Kilkenny and we look forward to celebrating all their hard work on the night.
