Learning Waves TY Students provide fresh faces on iRadio Christmas Schedule.
Three TY students joined the iRadio’s Christmas schedule after a hugely successful programme at the station uncovered some immense talent in the next generation. The programme, designed by Learning Waves and suppported by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland through the Sound and Vision Fund took place in iRadio in November 2022. The programme provided the opportunity for ten TY students from across the iRadio broadcast area to see how radio works and to create their own content that was broadcast by the station.
Under the mentorship of Ciaran Bennett and Rory Williams, the ten TYs heard from staff across a variety of department and at the end of the week the students produced and presented a two-hour show that included interviews, public voxpops, news, sport and entertainment that was broadcast on November 28th. The level of talent, commitment and attitude was so good, that iRadio has choose three of the students to come back and present their very own show over Christmas.
Westmeath’s Shane King, Mayo’s David Newcombe & Darragh Prendergast of Co. Laois will took to the airwaves on the 27th, 28th and 29th of December between 7pm and 9pm, to help listeners through that weird middle-ground between Christmas and New Year with the best of tunes and chat.
Congratulations to all the students involved and to all at iRadio for encouraging and supporting new talent across the industry. The opportunity for the students to broadcast across the Christmas schedule on iRadio is testament to the programme, to those involved in running and funding the programme. Similar programmes will be run across a number of radio stations between now and May 2022. If you would like to get involved in the programme contact Learning Waves at info@learningwaves.ie.
