114 entries from the Independent Radio Sector shortlisted for PPI Radio Awards.
The PPI Radio Awards will take place this year on 9th October 2015 in the Radisson Hotel in Galway. The event recognises the best in radio programming across the country. Galway will be host to the event for the first time and it promises to be a great night. This year, 114 entries from the Independent Commercial Radio Sector have been shortlisted for awards on the night. In 2014, the sector scooped 21 of out 35 awards and there is no doubt that they will be hoping to go one better this year. The sector dominates award categories in the areas of Breakfast Programme, Current Affairs, On Air Competition and Station Imaging, with all of the shortlisted entries coming from the sector.
In addition to the above, the sector will be hoping to do well in the Local Station, Music Station and National Station categories on the night. The winners of such categories are announced on the night with no shortlist in advance of the event.
On 18th September 2015, 4 new inductees chosen by the PPI Radio Awards committee and their peers were added to the PPI Hall of Fame. Such inductess are chosen for their skills in broadcasting plus love and dedication to radio in Ireland. Nominated for their services to the radio industry, this year they come from both in front of and behind the mic and from both the North and South of Ireland. They were officially welcomed into the Hall of Fame at a ceremony on Friday 18th September at the BAI and will be celebrated on 9th October in Galway. Inductees from the Independent Sector are 'technical genius' from Communicorp, Pat Balfe and the late Henry Condon from Red FM.
