Potential Music Presenters emerge from Learning Waves Radio Academy Bootcamp.

Learning Waves Radio Academy has completed its inagural course, Music Presenter Bootcamp, over the summer months.  The course saw 20 participants take part in a 3 week bootcamp which culminated in a broadcast on FRQ FM.  Participants are currently on work placement across our member stations.  The course was designed by the Learning Waves Music Sub Committee, chaired by John Keane, KCLR 96FM and members include : Martin Howard, Shannonside, Adelle Nolan, 98FM, Niall Power, Beat 102103FM, Andy Matthews, Classic Hits 4FM and Nessa McGann, Spin South West.  The aim of the course was to upskill the participants in the area of Music Show Preparation and Presentation.  Across the 3 weeks the participants learned the following : 

  • The Irish Radio Landscape
  • Programme planning and preparation
  • Introduction to Broadcast Law
  • The role of Social Media in Radio Programme Preparation and Presentation
  • Overview of the BAI 
  • Writing for Radio
  • News for Radio
  • Editing using Adobe Audition
  • Overview and Understanding JNLR 
  • Voice Training
  • Overview of RCS
  • Interacting with callers 'live' on air
  • Microphone Techniques
  • Production Techniques
  • CV's and Demos
  • Operating the desk and studio best practice

Across the 3 weeks, students were placed into 5 groups of 4 and each group had to research, produce and present a hour our programme live on FRQ FM during the week 10th to 14th August 2015.  Students had to choose the music for the programme, include 'News you can Use', include a pre recorded Feature on the programme and a Local Interest piece including Vox pops.  Integral to all shows was a Social Media element prior to and during the show.  Students are currently on placement across member stations including KCLR 96FM, Shannonside, Beat 102-103 FM, Galway Bay FM, 98FM, East Coast FM, Q102, Sunshine, Classic Hits 4FM and FRQFM.  More students will begin placements week of 7th September 2015.  For more details on the course and to find out how you can get access to one of our students email teresah@learningwaves.ie.
